Tema East NDC Candidate In Hot Waters || Information reaching Newsfiledesk.com suggests the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Tema East in the Greater Accra region, Isaac Ashai Odamtten, is in hot waters as he faces prosecution.
According to reports, Tema’s former Mayor along with four others will be put in a dock to face corruption and money laundering charges.
The Attorney General ‘s Department and the Economic Organized Crime Office (EOCO) have finished their investigations, and six charges against them are most likely expected.
The problem centers on diverting the revenue from Tema Metropolitan Assembly into private accounts while he was the Assembly’s Chief Executive Officer in former President John Dramani Mahama ‘s administration.
The former MCE is likely to face the music alongside some four individuals suspected to have been involved in the deal identified by the anti-graft body as causing the state financial loss.
The sum involved in the alleged state revenue embezzlement is around GH5.7 million after it was identified by the forensic audit conducted by the EOCO.
Meanwhile, the candidate of the NDC is in yet another trouble to retain his place as the party’s parliamentary nominee.
The party is reportedly split over a decision to either withdraw or retain him as an NDC candidate to face incumbent Titus Glover for Tema East constituency.
According to information some party leaders want him expelled after several problems surrounding him.
They fear he could disappoint the New Patriotic Party (NPP) party plan to snatch Tema East seat.
Earlier the party gave Isaac Ashai Odamtten an ultimatum of two weeks for giving up his seat immediately after winning the last parliamentary primaries of the party.
For the past two years, he went to the US where he was said to be schooling at the University of Oral Roberts.
Before 18 February 2019, the NDC candidate was asked to make use of his constituents to fulfill his duties to prevent legal action against him. Though he obeyed the party ‘s instructions, the former TMA chief executive allegedly left the country ‘s shores again to pursue his studies.
Nevertheless, after following 14 days of COVID 19 compulsory quarantine ahead of possible indictment, he returned to his constituency barely a week ago.
